Because we understand your busy schedule ALL current classes are now available on both a "Private Group" basis as well as traditionally scheduled times. 

This enables parents to create their own personalized group of five or more students and pre-select a day/time and teacher for any class listed below in the event you can not make our regularly scheduled session.

Reading and Writing “WORD ATTACK©” Grades 3 -5


WHAT: During this 6 week accelerated program our certified teachers and reading specialist offers engaging activities to teach students to become strong independent readers and creative writers.  Classes are equally distributed between advancing reading and writing skills.  During the writing portion students will learn how to create a story or essay in just 30 minutes!  Students will be instructed on the use of several types of openings, lines of dialogue, figurative language, vivid verbs and strong adjectives.  During the reading portion your child will gain the confidence and motivation necessary to tackle more challenging books, and by the end of the session your child will: 


  • Improve Comprehension
  • Learn decoding skills for challenging words
  • Increase fluency and speed
  • Become an avid reader
  • Improve their ability to focus on understanding books
  • Identify main events, character development, setting and plot
  • Learn to adjust reading speed depending on material

 

 

Reading and Writing Grades 6-8


WHAT: During this 6 week accelerated program our certified teachers and reading specialist helps students become advanced proficient persuasive writers, stronger readers and better overall students by increasing reading speed and improving comprehension.  Classes are equally distributed between reading and writing skills.  During the writing portion students will focus on using imagery to establish thesis for a strong opening and will learn to plan and write a persuasive essay in 45 minutes!  During the reading sessions students will:


  • Significantly improve reading speed;
  • Learn techniques to improve concentration and retention;
  • Decrease homework time, achieve better comprehension, and retain more;
  • Learn to adjust reading speed depending on material
  • Learn a step-by-step approach to determine how information is organized in non-fiction reading, and identify main ideas and supporting details;
  • Learn effective note-taking and how to incorporate notes into studying for tests;
  • Develop strategies for learning new words and incorporating them into their vocabulary.

                                           


Math Grades 3-5


WHAT: In this accelerated 6 week program, begins with addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, decimals, and percents.  Students then progress into general strategies for solving problems that involve a wide range of mathematical concepts.  Students will use varied approaches such as drawing diagrams and graphing, making lists, eliminating unreasonable possibilities, identifying patterns, guessing and checking, and manipulating variables.  By the end of the program students will develop better critical thinking and creative problem solving skills in addition to strengthening their mathematical-reasoning abilities.



Math Grades 6-8


WHAT: This accelerated 6 week program begins with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of fractions, decimals, and percents. The class then progresses through intuitive geometry, Pre-Algebra and Algebra I in subsequent sessions.  Students will be introduced to the algebra concepts of integers, equations, inequalities, and exponents; there is also a unit on informal geometry.   In the Algebra I classes students will learn about one and two variables through the solution of quadratic equations by factoring, completing the square, and by formula. This program will stress the structure and logical development of mathematics.



SAT Math or Verbal Intensive Class


WHAT: This class is for those with tight schedules who know where they want to focus.  Choose from either our 12-hour math or 12-hour verbal intensive prep course and receive all the preparation needed to tackle the redesigned SAT math or verbal section in the shortest time possible.  Classes are available on weekdays or weekends to meet your needs.  The weekday group meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays over a 3 week period.  A more relaxed pace is also available on Saturday mornings (over a 6 week period).  During this time we will review all subject matter material, teach you our test-taking strategies and ensure you're completely prepared with extensive in-class practice. We then bolster your testing stamina by offering a free proctored test; all in a small class setting.

SAT Complete Prep. Package


WHAT:  This 24-hour intensive prep course gives you all the preparation needed to tackle the redesigned SAT math and verbal sections in the shortest time possible.  Classes are available on weekdays or weekends to meet your needs.  The Tuesday and Thursday group meets for 3 weeks at either 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. OR 5 – 9 p.m.  A more relaxed pace is also available on Saturday mornings 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. (over a 6 week period).  During this time we will review critical reading, essay writing, Alg. I and II, Geometry and Trigonometry; teach you our test-taking strategies and ensure you're completely prepared with extensive in-class practice and 2 free proctored tests in a small class setting. 

Because we realize that many students are concerned about the college application process the final class is rounded out by our college coach who provides a common application completion session and tips for applying to colleges.

Chess Prodigy Classes (Beginner - Master Levels)


WHAT: Our small group chess class is hosted by an internationally ranked master chess instructor (and coach for the woman’s national chess team) who offers instruction at the beginner, intermediate and master level for ages 6 and up.



Introductory Spanish / Mandarin (Grades 3 - 8)


WHAT: These introductory courses are taught by actual NJ certified language teachers (not Rosetta Stone) who will immerse students in the language, explore the native culture and prepare them for additional study in the fall by focusing on proper use of nouns, adjectives, verbs, etc.  Covered topics include: Greetings, Personal Information, School life, Time and Weather, Family, Likes and Dislikes, Descriptions, Food and Restaurants, Health and Culture.



Academic Strategies (Grades 3-5 , 6-8)


WHAT: This class is offered to provide academic strategies to be used in the classroom and at home.  In this class you will develop:

  • time management skills

  • memorization techniques

  • reading comprehension strategies

Social Skills “WINGS© GROUP” (Grades 3-5)


WHAT: This group will provide children with useful strategies they can immediately put into place to improve their behavior in different environments. Small groups of 4-8 students (depending on activity level) interact with their peers while skilled child psychologists and therapists involve them in engaging, skill building activities specifically designed to aid in social development.  Each session will introduce and teach specific social skills, while enhancing communication and language development.  Children will be introduced to a new social skill, which is solidified through an engaging activity. Children then learn to apply these skills to other life settings through cooperative play which is closely observed and coached by a team of professionals.



Mother-Daughter "CONNECTIONS ©" Reading/Discussion Group (Grades 6-8)


WHAT: Mothers of middle school girls know this is a critical stage in your relationship with your daughter.  What can you do to ensure she will be prepared to face challenges that come during adolescence/teenage years? How can you strengthen the mother-daughter bond and develop a future relationship of respect & friendship?

“CONNECTIONS” is a program designed for girls in grades 6-8, and their mothers.  The purpose is to enable daughters to thrive through adolescence and teen years by keeping a close and connected relationship with their mothers. The group will be facilitated by a licensed teacher (MAT) and certified professional coach (CPC) with 25 years of experience in providing useful strategies for coping with the vast array of challenges in today’s society.   Small groups of 4-7 mother/daughter pairs interact in engaging discussions with correlated readings designed to prepare them for the transitions of life.  A variety of topics will be covered (based upon participant demand) including but not limited to:  peer pressure, positive body image, safety with technology, effective communication, increasing responsibility, peacemaking strategies, depression and creating confidence.

​By sharing a love for reading, engaging in developmentally appropriate activities and finding methods of keeping communication open through adolescence and teen years; mothers are helping their daughters to thrive.  Potential readings (ranging from the classics to modern authors) will be determined by the participants and may include selections such as:

Yoga for Focus, Well Being and Fun! (Grades 3-8)


WHAT: This is Beginner Level Yoga class is specifically designed for students in grades 3-8 who desire to increase their focus and attention.  Our Certified Yoga Alliance Instructor and Professional Coach will guide students through simple yoga practice including basic physical postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), and guided meditations (savasana).  Each class will conclude with individual goal setting and a weekly action plan to help students improve in specific areas.

Scientific studies have proven that children trained in yoga showed greater improvement in areas of attention and hyperactivity, as well as homework compliance.  The cognitive benefits of regular yoga practice include:  improved focus, increased mindfulness, a “quieting of the mind”, decreased impulsivity, increased self-awareness / awareness of others and a better connection of mind, body and spirit.  In addition, students will see many physical benefits which will include:  increased strength and flexibility, balanced metabolism, increased respiration and a positive energy level.


"PARCC" Program (Grades 3-8)

Personalized Academic Reinforcement of Core Curriculum "PARCC" is our most flexible and economical program for grades 3 to 8.  Instructors direct individual students in 30 minutes enrichment sessions on their subject area of choice: English Language arts/literacy or math on either a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

With no stringent class times students are free to schedule sessions any day and time which works with their busy schedules and can even adapt their sessions from week to week.  The program mirrors the district's curriculum while simultaneously progressing each child through the core curriculum standards tested on the PARCC.
